About Cindy Dunbar:

Dr. Dunbar holds a bachelor's degree in history and science from Harvard University. She earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed her internal medicine residency training at Boston City Hospital, followed by a fellowship in hematology at the University of California San Francisco.

Her translational research has helped advance gene therapies for blood disorders and contributed to the development of eltrombopag as a treatment for severe aplastic anemia, work that led to the first FDA-approved drug for the disorder in more than 30 years.

Throughout her career, she has combined laboratory and clinical investigation in hematopoiesis, stem cell biology, gene and cell therapy, natural killer cell biology, and bone marrow failure. Her research has made extensive use of rhesus macaque transplantation models to better understand human blood formation and disease and to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of emerging gene and cell therapies.
