November Signature screening – Delicatessen (1991)

About this event

In a surreal, post-apocalyptic France, food is a distant memory and grain is the ultimate currency. At the center of a rundown apartment building stands a sinister butcher who keeps his eccentric tenants fed through a secret, unsavory supply of "fresh meat."

Enter Louison ( Dominique Pinon ), an unemployed circus clown hired as the building's new handyman—unaware that he’s slated to be the next menu item. But when the butcher’s shortsighted daughter, Julie, falls head-over-heels for the charming clown, she hatches a wild plot to save him from the meat grinder, enlisting the help of a subterranean rebel group known as the Troglodytes.

Bursting with slapstick ingenuity, gorgeous sepia-toned visuals, and unforgettable rhythm, Delicatessen is a wickedly funny masterpiece of art-house cinema.
