About this event
Exhibitions Opening this November at William Campbell Gallery
Joan Winter | Light: Both Sides Now Joan Winter invites viewers to witness the ephemeral passage of time through the interplay of light, color, and surface. Grounded in over three decades of practice spanning printmaking, painting, and sculpture, Winter’s work captures transient natural moments—shifting skies, flowing water, and quiet forest remnants—mediating between presence and absence. Deeply influenced by Japanese architecture and the concept of ma (the intentional pause to become present), Winter crafts forms that reflect and refract light, offering space to contemplate universal connections and our shared environment.
Exhibition Dates: November 7 – December 5, 2026

Peter Stephens | Bumper Crop Peter Stephens explores the wonder of visual perception through vibrant abstractions structured around geometric grids. By layering freehand lines, Stephens creates optical fields that pulse with depth and movement. Inspired by natural physics and mathematical patterns, these dynamic paintings blend precision with intuition—offering an immersive experience where color becomes both subject and phenomenon.

Steve Murphy | Right Down the Line A dedicated formalist whose practice spans decades of sculptural evolution, Steve Murphy presents a fresh, playful iteration of minimalist geometry in Right Down the Line. Expanding upon his signature reductive forms, Murphy introduces asymmetrical wood shapes, interactive negative-space cutouts, and a newly embraced palette of muted, smoky colors alongside specialized finishes like oxidized sheet lead and liquefied graphite. Rooted in ideas sparked by thumbnail sketches on graph paper and driven by spontaneous studio improvisation, these dynamic three-dimensional works balance precise spatial structure with intuitive color interplay—inviting viewers to discover their own unique connections within the composition.
