EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas Women’s University will offer various camps this summer in June and July for youth in southern Denton County covering sports, STEMM, fashion, cooking, and language—special sessions are available for students with disabilities or sensory challenges, and many registration deadlines end today.  The Cross Timbers Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Town of Flower Mound will hold a public hearing from 6 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 22 at Town Hall (2121 Cross Timbers Rd., Room 124) to review its CDBG 2025-2029 Consolidated Plan and Program Year 2025 Annual Action Plan. Residents may view the plans online or at Town Hall and submit written comments if they cannot attend.  City of Flower Mound
  • Denton County Commissioner’s Court proclaimed May as Mental Health Awareness Month to help children and families get better mental health care and named May 8 as Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day. The court said 29 percent of children have a mental condition and 48 percent of parents struggle to get needed treatment, and local groups are ready to offer support.  Family eGuide
  • At its May meeting, Flower Mound Town Council unanimously passed an ordinance that will take effect the first week of June—requiring children 14 and under to wear helmets while riding and setting rules for nighttime lights and mobile device use. Offenders will face fines up to $50 on first violation and $100 for repeat violations, with a chance to get a refund if a safety course is completed within 90 days.  Family eGuide
