  • Flower Mound celebrates National Park and Recreation Month with a photo contest and scavenger hunt. The photo contest requires submissions emailed by 5 p.m. July 18 and entries will be posted July 21 for public voting, while the scavenger hunt ends July 31 with a wrap-up party at Twin Coves Park—5001 Wichita Trail—from 7:30 to 10 p.m.  City of Flower Mound

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The body of 23-year-old Alyssa Benet Jones was recovered from Lewisville Lake near a private boat dock at 7:34 a.m. on Sunday, with officials noting she was not wearing a life jacket and alcohol may have contributed — detectives are investigating and have ruled out foul play.  Family eGuide

CRIME NEWS

  • A Krum man, 45-year-old George Howard Cook II, was arrested Monday on murder charges for selling fentanyl that led to 64-year-old Mark Saltsman's death on Dec. 3rd—officers also found heroin, fentanyl, and methamphetamines at his home, adding a second felony charge for controlled substance possession.  Family eGuide

  • Two more National Merit Scholarship winners from southern Denton County were announced Monday—Drew C. Mackereth from Argyle High School earned a scholarship to Tulsa University to study biochemistry and Flower Mound native Sofia A.
