- ➤ The Flower Mound Fire Department, Lewisville Independent School District and their Junior ROTC program will host a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at the north end of Flower Mound High School football stadium at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11 to honor those lost and the first responders of the Sept 11 attack; local residents may also join activities that involve climbing 2,200 stadium steps or running/walking 3.43 miles around the track. - ➤ Local author Lynne Izganics is featured on the Children’s Art Wall at the Flower Mound Public Library through the end of September—her debut book Baxter the Traveling Bunny tells the story of her 15-year-old pet bunny. City of Flower Mound
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Denton High School said on Tuesday that 18-year-old student-athlete Tro’Mario Allen Jr., a cornerback for the Broncos, has died. Counselors were made available to help students, and officials have not yet decided if the football game against Eastern Hills on Friday will change. The Cross Timbers Gazette
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Medical City opened its outpatient mental health therapy clinic in Argyle. The clinic, located at 7222 Crawford Road (Suite 150), is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to meet growing demand for mental health services. The Cross Timbers Gazette
- ➤ Kendra Scott at the Shops at Highland Village partners with Yoga Bridge to offer a free yoga class on Saturday at 9 a.m.—a celebration of its Give Back Program—and 20% of all store purchases will be donated to support the nonprofit's work with cancer patients and survivors. - ➤ Highland Village said it will spray in the Castlewood area today and on Saturday and Sunday from 2—6 a.m. after a mosquito trap tested positive for West Nile Virus; crews are treating standing water and urging residents to drain water around homes to limit mosquito breeding.
