- ➤ House Bill 8 now awaits Governor Abbott’s signature to replace the end-of-year STAAR test with three shorter tests—administered at the start, middle, and end of the school year beginning in 2027-2028. A Northwest ISD representative said the change only rebrands the test and does not ease the high-stakes pressure on students. The Cross Timbers Gazette
