COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Flower Mound residents can register their neighborhood block parties for National Night Out before registration closes at 5 p.m. on September 29—Town Council, police, and fire departments will visit the events on October 7 to boost community safety.  City of Flower Mound

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Denton County Transportation Authority recently launched Transit Royale—a premium upgrade to the free Transit app that lets riders check GoZone availability, live track departures, and plan trips across Highland Village, Lewisville, and Denton. The app now offers unique icons and emojis to improve the transit experience.  The Cross Timbers Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new free-standing AED SaveStation was installed at the Lantana tennis courts on August 23 in honor of 17-year-old Dylan Dorrell, a Guyer High School cross country runner who died on August 13 from sudden cardiac arrest. Adkins Elementary School and RunForDylan Foundation raised funds for the station which comes with climate control and remote monitoring (to alert for maintenance), ensuring it is ready 24/7 for emergencies.  The Cross Timbers Gazette
  • Jennifer Kaplinsky, owner of Learning Express Toys & Gifts and Neon Elephant in Highland Village, is fighting multiple myeloma after a July diagnosis while she continues to serve the community despite being in a wheelchair. She will begin chemotherapy, then a stem cell transplant and hip repair next year—her staff is ready to support customers as she adjusts her work schedule.  The Cross Timbers Gazette
