Local food pantries in Denton County are gearing up for increased need this Thanksgiving as over 46,000 residents are affected by paused SNAP benefits from the government shutdown and rising prices.

United Way of Denton County and local stores like Aldi, Kroger and Walmart are urging donations and offering low-cost meal options — helping families face the holiday season.

Lucy Hedari, a Texas Woman’s University graduate, has been named chief financial officer at Medical City Denton and Medical City Argyle and will lead financial operations including patient access — supply chain oversight.

She returns to her old college town after serving as CFO at Medical City Decatur and holding finance roles at Medical City Fort Worth and Weatherford.

H-E-B has partnered with the University Interscholastic League and Dave Campbell’s Texas Sports to award 15 high school seniors with $2,000 scholarships — applications opened Monday for seniors with a GPA of 3.3 who have participated in UIL competitions and community service.

The Argyle ISD Board of Trustees approved 50 acres along Hwy 377 north of Argyle Middle School for a future campus in Block A (White Rock Farm Addition); the board said improvements to road access will be made before construction.

Board members acknowledged community concerns over traffic while stressing the need to secure land for the district's growing student body.
