About this event

"Defining a Novel Neuroimmune Axis in Intestinal Inflammation and Neurodegenerative Disease"

Speaker:

Ching-Lan Lu, M.D., Ph.D.

Instructor of Internal Medicine

Division of Hepatology & Gastroenterology

Weill Cornell Medical

About Ching-Lan Lu:

Dr. Lu earned her medical degree from Chang Gung University in Taiwan and completed internal medicine residency training and a fellowship in infectious diseases at National Taiwan University Hospital before coming to the U.S. to pursue doctoral training in immunology and microbial pathogenesis at Weill Cornell Medicine.

Working with Michel Nussenzweig, M.D., Ph.D., Dr. Lu investigated how broadly neutralizing antibodies combat HIV-1 and how their effects differ from conventional antiretroviral drugs. Her doctoral work demonstrated that these antibodies can accelerate the clearance of HIV-1-infected cells in vivo and resulted in a first-author paper in Science. She subsequently conducted patient-oriented research at Rockefeller University, studying HIV viral reservoirs and the mechanisms by which rebounding virus can escape antibody-mediated immune pressure.

Dr. Lu later returned to clinical training at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where her interests expanded to the mechanisms underlying gastrointestinal disease. In the laboratory of Gregory Sonnenberg, Ph.D., at Weill Cornell Medicine, she has focused on mucosal immunology and the neuroimmune pathways that regulate intestinal physiology, bringing her extensive background in host immunity to questions involving gastrointestinal health and disease.
