If you follow , the school board has new officers. Trustees voted unanimously Monday night to name Rich McDowell president, Leona McDade vice president and Frank Dixon secretary. That came after an executive session that lasted nearly three hours.

The reshuffle follows the resignations of Matt Slaton in Place 6 and Sam Slaton (no relation) in Place 7, who left within five days of each other. McDowell told the board it is time to "refocus our collective energy" on students.

  • Still vacant: Places 6 and 7, plus the superintendent job
  • Next board meeting: Monday, Nov. 16
  • Options for the seats: appoint someone or hold an election

The board was supposed to discuss filling those seats Monday, but updates will have to wait. It has appointed members before: Sam Slaton joined in July after Josh Westrom resigned in June.

The Wrap

Friday night at Highlander Stadium, Highland Park beat Birdville 48-31 to win the District 6-5A title. It's the 61st district championship for the Scots, whose program is the winningest in Texas high school football history. Senior night photos came with a trophy this year. Not bad for a backdrop.
