EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two local school districts announced Proposition A Elections on Tuesday to raise funds for school maintenance and operations—Northwest ISD is proposing a tax rate increase of three cents to generate at least $12 million for reducing class sizes and retaining teachers while Denton ISD approved a tax ratification expected to lower property taxes, including for seniors. Voters will decide on these measures on November 4.  The Cross Timbers Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Commissioner Edmondson thanked Denton County professionals for coordinating emergency response during the deadly Fourth of July floods that claimed over 130 lives in the Hill Country and affected families at Camp Mystic. Local emergency teams from the OEM & Sheriff’s Office worked with County Administration & state agencies as legislators meet to plan future flood prevention measures.  The Cross Timbers Gazette
  • With summer ending and school starting soon, Flower Mound police are recruiting paid school crossing guards—as positions offer two to four hours of work at $17.33 an hour with provided equipment—with applications open until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29. The Town has passed a micromobility safety ordinance—requiring helmets for kids under 14 and proper lighting at night—and invites residents to join volunteer boards while getting ready for Fall Into Flower Mound on Oct. 10-11 at the River Walk.  Family eGuide
